Case


A fine quality Georgian mahogany longcase clock with a 12" break arch moon phase brass and silvered dial, signed Wright and Sellon, London dating circa 1760.
The high quality London case veneered in beautifully figured flame mahogany, of excellent colour and patination.
The classic London design pagoda topped hood surmounted by heavy cast brass finials, below brass inlaid fluted columns with brass capitals. The pagoda centre with silk backed intricately worked sound fret, glazed movement viewing windows to the hood sides and matching quarter turned columns and capitals to the rear, lockable hood door with original brass strap hinges.
The long trunk door with well figured flame mahogany veneer and razor edge moulding, original lock, hinges and decorative brass escutcheon plate. Figured flame mahogany raised panel to the base with double plinth and pad feet.
The whole case constructed of solid oak with the original one piece oak backboard.


Dial

The 12" break arch engraved brass and silvered dial signed Wright and Sellon, London to the arch, flanked by decorative engraved scroll work.
The silvered brass Roman chapter ring with outer minute track and Arabic five minute markings.
The beautifully engraved and silvered revolving moon phases to the arch with painted blue background and gold stars, beneath finely engraved sunburst and globe.
The scalloped and recessed subsidiary seconds dial with unusual decorative coloured wax infill and silvered ringed calendar aperture above VI.
The finely matted dial centre with gilded ornate mask head cast brass spandrels to the corners.

Movement

The fully restored high quality movement is of eight day duration, with the movement plates united by five knopped pillars, anchor escapement and rack striking striking the hours on a single bell.

The movement is fully restored by our horologist who works exclusively for us.
Our horologist is a Fellow of the British Horological Institute (FBHI), having 35 years of full time professional engagement in the repair & restoration of clocks, watches, music boxes & barometers. He was the recipient of the 1977 Worshipful Company of Clockmakers Bronze Medal.

Weights and pendulum


The original brass cased lead weights, brass pulleys and brass bob pendulum with brass strap.

Hands

Finely wrought and fretted blued steel hands.

Overall a very fine Georgian London longcase clock of beautiful proportions, in excellent original condition and of superior quality with the moon phase indication.
