The high quality case of typical late 18th century Lancashire style, having the finest flame mahogany veneers and boxwood fan inlays. The boxed swan-neck pediment hood with surmounted with three original wooden finials, gilt decorated panels beneath. The hood door flanked by double turned and crisply reeded columns. The beautifully figured shaped top mahogany trunk door flanked by reeded quarter columns to the trunk sides. The inlaid base with canted corner and complex stepped mould, all set on four ogee bracket feet.
The beautifully executed arched japanned dial of “Osborne” manufacture, with Roman numeral chapter ring and outer Arabic numeral markings, with subsidiary seconds dial and date zone. Revolving phases of the moon to arch with opposing scenes depicting rural landscapes Early japanned decorated dial with finely painted raised gilt gesso and flower corner spandrels. The dial centre painted with birds of paradise and signed Harrison Ormskirk.
A fully restored fine quality eight day, four pillar movement, rack striking the hours on a single bell, with geared moon drive.
