longcase clock by George Hallifax of Doncaster, circa
1770.
The case constructed of
figured quarter sawn oak, having a flat topped hood with
freestanding turned columns terminating with gilded
wooden capitals beneath.
The long trunk door with
shaped top and the original escutcheon and steel lock.
The box base surmounted on
shaped bracket feet.
The arched brass dial with
engraved centre and silvered Roman chapter ring
surrounded
by finely cast spandrels.
The arch with silvered convex boss signed Geo Hallifax
Doncaster, flanked by dolphin spandrels.
Subsidiary seconds and silvered ringed calendar zones to
the dial centre.
The
fine quality fully restored movement of eight day duration
united by four
knopped pillars, with anchor escapement and striking the
hours on a single bell.
Cast iron weights and brass faced bob
pendulum.
Finely fretted blued steel hands of serpentine design.
