A fine quality mahogany 8 day
drumhead longcase clock by Walter Gibb of Wishaw, circa
1870.
The "keyhole drumhead" case of
typical Glasgow design, constructed from the finest
quality flame mahogany veneer, retaining a beautiful rich
colour and patina.
The stylish small sized case with an
applied carved pediment to the hood and carved work
beneath, with the original gilded dial sighting ring.
The bow shaped trunk door, with
cushion mouldings above and below, having the original
lock and key.
The recessed paneled box base
standing on four turned bun feet.
The circular japanned dial
with the original gilded gold chapter ring, seconds and
date zones. Signed to the white enameled dial centre, W
Gibb Wishaw.
The fully restored movement is of eight day duration, the
plates united by four knopped pillars, anchor escapement
and striking the hours on a single bell.
