A fine quality flame mahogany 8 day longcase clock by Robert Menzies of Cupar Angus.

Case

The high quality case veneered in beautifully figured flame mahogany, crossbanded with satinwood and inlaid with fine quality marquetry work. The swan-neck pediment hood with fluted free standing columns terminating with brass capitals, fine quality fluted cast brass brass ball finial to the centre of the swan-neck. The boxwood strung and marquetry inlaid long trunk door with choice curled mahogany veneers, flanked by quarter turned finely reeded columns. The urn and fan inlaid box base surmounted on ogee bracket feet.

Dial

The arched painted dial with raised gesso gilded corners with beautifully painted flowers to the corners and arch. Signed to the centre Rob Menzies Cupar Angus, with subsidiary seconds and calendar zones.

Movement

The good quality movement of eight day duration united by four knopped pillars, anchor escapement and striking the hours on a single bell.

Weights and pendulum

Original Scottish oval cast iron weights and cast iron bob pendulum.

Hands

Fine quality blued steel hands of serpentine design.
